Although Flu B is generally less dangerous, it can have serious consequences for children and the elderly. Children under 5 years of age may have more complications with influenza B, due to the fact that they do not yet have developed immunity. As Flu B is less common, the presence of outbreaks is often due to the fact that many people have not had contact with this type of virus before or are not vaccinated.
