This examination allows the inside of the large intestine, colon and rectum to be observed using a flexible camera, called a colonoscope, which is inserted into the anus. With the increase in the occurrence of colorectal cancer at younger ages, the current recommendation is that the first colonoscopy should be performed after the age of 45.
