It is a chronic neurological disease, more common in young adults, and which usually appears in the third decade of life, twice as frequently in women.

The first symptoms are of a sensitive nature, such as loss of sensitivity or tingling sensations that begin in one extremity and spread to the entire limb. Blurred or double vision, motor deficits, tremors, difficulty walking and speaking, balance changes and memory or concentration problems are also common.
