The most common signs are bloody diarrhea, colicky abdominal pain and the urgent desire to have a bowel movement. In more serious cases, fatigue, weight loss and fever may also occur. Given the association between ulcerative colitis and colon cancer, regular colonoscopy screening is recommended.
